vinyl

I did some vinyl this weekend as well as cards and my quilled bird that was already posted....

I wanted to do something for my sister, as i never see her as she lives quite aways away from me and so we maybe talk and see eachother for a couple of hours when i get to my mums...so not alot lol  i wanted to make her something other than a card as her daughter makes her own cards and so for me to send her one wouldnt hold the same meaning..so this is what i came up with....

I had a frame 7x5 and so i then had my measuements to work too...i cut a piece of white card to fit inside the frame for a background..i had the angel already downloaded from the silhouette store i used it several times on christmas items and like the way it cuts...i looked around for some phrases and chose this one from the Sil store for 99c about 69p!! I think it may prove to be quite useful in cards as well as vinyl art...

Once i had decided that i wanted to use these 2 files i had to look through my stash of vinyl to choose colours...i find that dark vinyl goes well on a light vinyl and chose contrasting colours...the light one is a pale butter yellow and the writting was a deep purple....

I firstly placed the angel using my transfer tape and then i layered on the writing..i will admit the writting was very fiddly even with the transfer tape and caused me some swearing but hey a little patience and a pokey tool and it was done xx love debby xx
This weekend i have been making a couple of cards for the introduction of the March challenge on silhouette plus...I then had my babes play me up and decided not to work...so as i  was in the crafting mood i decided to do some quilling whilst hubby worked his magic on my babes....

I saw a quilled picture on pinterest ages ago and wanted to be able to give it a try, but alas there was no instructions even on the website that the picture came from originally...so i had to do it from memory of what id seen....

my bird should have been much thinner with more of a head but i think mine ate too many worms lol
firstly i got the shape i wanted with a single strip of quilling paper then i made a tight round for its eye..
and did some loose swirls for its tail and stuck that to the body...and 2 small loose swirls for its legs...so far it was good going...then i made some double rounds for its body and stuck them in...

It was a quick enough project...im just disappointed with the shape of the bird as i originally had a lovely shape but when sticking in the quills i stuck one in the wrong place and as is sods law thats the one that stuck fast straightaway lol still its something different and will go nice on a shelf love debby xx

Monday 20 February 2012

This is the final card i did in the previous series and the one i liked the best....the card was from the sil store it was the circular valentine card. I liked the scallops around the inside edgewhich is why i chose this one but i omitted the rest of the front decoration. I used cute companions papers and the green is quite sweet when its not covered as it has some lovely flowers on it...The mouse was stamped using a momentum black inkpad and coloured using promarkers..the colours was poppy and bright red. I added some bling from my stash...
The mouses fur was coloured using a cinnamon promarker...i think out of the 3 cards i made using this one stamp i like this one best as i think by now you will realise i like strong colours and i dont think you can go wrong with contrasts sometimes lol. Thank you for stopping by love debby xx

mums birthday card

I have been struggling on this card as i wanted it to be special but i know mum hates fussy cards and she loathes glitter...so that was a challenge in itself...then i found the cute cmpanions range from crafters companion and loved the stamps...problem solved almost...what colours to do it in?? What papers to use?

I did several stamped impressions and using my promarkers did several colourways and looked at the papers in the cute companions range....this is the first one i came up with:

I cut the card with a file from the sil store it was called cirular frame card but i omitted the frame as i thought the design lent itself to a circular card. The background papers both came from the cute companions range and were cut using my spellbinderswith my bigshot.

The mouse was coloured using promarkers...i used cinnamon for the fur and aqua blue for the dress with blue for the shading. The poppy was a file from the sil store and cut on card from the papermilldirect.co.uk

I wasnt totally convinced of this one and tried another colour variation this time in shades of purples

The  promarkers used in this case was dusky pink and lilac. The papers again was from the cute companions range and i also again used my spellbinders..
.all made the same except for the colours..i still wasnt convinced this was THE card so i tried it in yet another colour way...

a sneak peak

This is one i made earlier: it is for the march card challenge

so i cant say much yet but i thought i would give peeps a taster hehe love debby xx
Well i thought i would get ahead of myself and make a birthday card for my mum for march from my son because knowing him of old the day before her birthday he will suddenly remember that he hasnt got her one and expect me to make him one at the last minute ..post it to her and her get it on time....so....
well i hope she likes it....

The background was again handmade paper and it had tones of browns and oranges in which set the colours of the card...the doily was one that i got free from the silhouette plus forum it was made and freely given by doodling debbie...if you have a silhouette and havent been there i suggest you give it a look...i distress coloured the doily with an ink it up pad in orange!!

The topper has gold foiling and is from kanbans coffee cappuchino range. The verse on it reads:

A balanced diet is cake in one hand and coffee in the other. I think the colours really compliment each
other here....

valentines card

Its feb 13th and at 12.15pm today my son asked could i make him a card for his girlfriend for tomorrow!!! So as usual when you have a last minute card to make you just cant seem to get inspiration so i looked at files on my computer and came across an interesting one in jpeg format that i had downloaded from Richard A. Bond (simply crafts) 2011 that i had forgotten about..so having my starting point heres the card:...

It is a french circa 1840s trifold panel and lends itself to a trifold card beautifully. I used a silk red ribbon to tie it together. I didnt think the outside needed anything else doing to it. Inside i lined 2 of the panels with mirra board and layered that with a pretty rosebud paper from Pink Petticoat....

The hearts are lattice hearts from sil store...i then sketched a poem from Purple Ronnie and placed that in the middle panel....

I only had a couple of hours to make this card but i think it turned out reasonable and I hope she likes it!! Thank you for looking love debby xx

Sunday 12 February 2012

Its mothersday here in March and i  wanted to make my mum a special card..its also her birthday in march so its always important to me to make 2 entirely different cards for her so that she can see at a glance which one is which...so my valentines were blue this year and i had some of  the nice lattice hearts left that i had cut ( i liked it so much i cut rather a lot!!) and being me i have to use them up so heres my mothersday card incorporating the blue heart...

Firstly i got a brown card blank and decided to cut a lattice frame on my sil babes i then distress inked it with mustard...i used a makeup sponge to rub the ink over as i havent got the tim holtz tool to distress with so i use what i have...i then used the silhouette to write happy mothersday i cant remember the font i used but it was a handwriting one...i then cut out a scalloped border with my words in....

i then tried several layouts with my card and ended up putting my blue heart onto a plain white card as that made it sing out better than anything else i had tried..i still wasnt satisfied so i made a few flowers out of different papers and liked this one with the heart it is made from glitter paper and was just a circle cut and rolled..i tried the embellishment all over the card and it ended p near the right hand corner so the card needed something else? my hubby was sorting through my bigshot dies as it happens and i spied the butterfly die ..

so i cut it out with the big shot 3 times in a white card and distressed all 3 with faded jeans distress ink it is a little darker than the heart but that is the beauty of it i layered them together and folded the top 2 to give some interest..i then added some rhinestones to the body and anntennas of the butterfly and that was enough for this card..the colours would either clash or blend..you can make up your own mind...

Friday 10 February 2012

Yesterday i was unwell again and had very bad palpitations and had to spend the day resting so my babes had a rest to,,but i have two cards to make for my mum one for mothers day and one for her birthday. I set myself the task many years ago to make both her cards as they always fall within a week of each other with different tecniques so that they are quite different from one another. But alas my mother is not a card making connoseur and cant understand why i may spend hours making a card when you could put a ribbon across a bit of card and just chuck a topper on-her words not mine!!! So today i have been cutting lattice and sentiments ready for tomorrow when i will get the glue out...ive been playing with the distress inks again and so the lattice will have time to dry before i glue and glitter it..i dont quite know what her cards will turn out like yet but i will post them when im done xxlove debbyxx

Wednesday 8 February 2012

So its that time of year when our hearts turn to romance..and i finally got down to making my valentines card..i love the opulance of the reds and golds used on valentines and of course all the lace and frills and glitz..but this year i decided to go different and came up with a blue card..i plotted it in my mind with lots of blues and whites and lace borders but it didnt quite turn out like that because i decided i didnt like it and so i made it simple instead...

I used a paisley background paper and cut a border from the silhouette store and laid it down my one concession to frilly bits lol onto that i put some handmade paper (yes its from the same batch that my scrapbook layout came..well you have to use it up sometime!!)

I then cut a lattice heart and inked it with faded jeans distress ink and cut the love flourish out of blue card 220gsm and glued them in place....i also cut a cupid and glittered it up and stuck that on...

I had several of the hearts and cupids left because i had cut 4 of each not knowing quite how the card would end up and this following card was made on the spur of the moment...

The background card was one that i cut a few days ago and the red layer was supposed to line up with the scallops but i didnt look at what i was doing properly and cut it wrong so it was discarded until now..i distressed the red with ink    tore some yellow paper and also distressed that with red ink and stuck it together i then tucked on of my spare hearts under the yellow paper and just stuck on the cupid quick but bright and effective dont you think??? love debby xx

Monday 6 February 2012

I made my first scrapbbok page!!! I am foremost a card maker and havent really done any scrapbooking as it hasnt really appealled to me but on the silhouette plus forum they have revamped the challenges and one category now is scrapbooking...i felt i had to support the host and do my bit although i dont think mine will come up to scratch i did it anyhow...and ive had more problems photographing it to put it into the challenge and on here than i did actually doing it lol...
So here goes.....

The photo is from my wedding day when we were cutting the cake......and although the background looks orange it is actually pink.....

The red doily was cut on my beloved babes...and the pink roses paper is a hand made paper from my stash. The limited edition love element was from daisy trail it was from a free digikit i laid it onto some more handmade paper that was a bright white...

The poem i used was by Purple Ronnie which i adore..i chose that particular verse because on our first anniversay my hubby gave me a cup with that one on and its still a very treasured object today!! The scroll i laid it on was again from daisy trail along with the flourish..i inked them up with my trusted distress ink and hey ho   thats hoow i did it...love debby xx
